In 2002 the Royal Sutton Fun Run was brought to an end after 21 hugely successful years with over £1.25 million – a total beyond anyone’s expectation – being distributed to charities and voluntary organisations.
In 2003, after the intervention of key stakeholders, the event was relaunched as the Great Midlands Fun Run.
The seventeen events staged since 2003, have generated a further £3.58 million, bringing the overall total distributed to £4.83 million.
The rebranding was taken for both administrative and commercial reasons. However, many of those who participated in the early years or live in and around Royal Sutton Coldfield have continued to refer to the event as the Royal Sutton Fun Run.
With the town’s Royal status officially being recognised b ack in 2014; the Queen celebrating her Platinum Jubilee and 2022 being the 40th anniversary of the first event in June 1982, we felt now was an appropriate time to revert to the original name and therefore, moving forward, the event will be known as The Royal Sutton Fun Run.
We hope you approve of this decision and look forward to seeing many of you in the royal town later this year.
