Thousands of Fun Run entrants stream into Sutton Park at Boldmere Gate

The Royal Sutton Fun Run is NOT A RACE. It’s a fun event for people of all ages and abilities. Disability or age is not a barrier.

As an entrant you are encouraged to contribute towards the key objective – to provide financial support to charities and voluntary organisations, preferably across the Midlands – by collecting sponsorship money for a charity, voluntary organisation or community interest group of your choice.

As a direct result of your endeavours, this financial support will directly improve the quality of life for those who live with physical, learning or emotional disability.

Our main sponsors include, Erdington based Cookes Furniture; Webasto Roof Systems Ltd, located in Minworth on the outskirts of Royal Sutton Coldfield – who is the world market leader in the supply of innovative sunroofs, thermo solutions and e-mobility to the automotive industry and Swof Media – our digital media partner based in Birmingham’s famous Jewellery Quarter, completes our joint main sponsor line-up.

We also want to thank our many supporting sponsors for their enthusiasm, support and encouragement.

The Fun Run is staged over an 8.5 mile all-tarmac route. The start is in Royal Sutton Coldfield town centre from where you enter Sutton Park @ Boldmere Gate after 2.25 miles, negotiate approximately 4.5 miles in the park including ‘Cardiac Hill’, exit @ Four Oaks Gate after 6.75 miles before returning to the finish in the town centre. A route map can be found by visiting the Fun Run Info tab at the top of the home page.

Everyone who completes the course receives a specially minted commemorative medal – sponsored by Cookes Furniture.

The event began 40 years ago this year in June 1982, when 1300 people participated and raised just over £13,000 for charities and voluntary organisations, mainly within the Sutton Coldfield area.

After 21 years, the event was brought to an end but not before generating over £1.25million for charities and voluntary organisations, nominated by those who had participated in the event.

Driven by commercial partners, the event was relaunched in September 2003 as the Great Midlands Fun Run. The same key objective was retained i.e. providing a vehicle for people of all ages and abilities with an event to enjoy with family and friends, whilst raising money for charities & voluntary organisations of their choice.

Those intervening years have seen hundreds of charities and voluntary organisations benefit to the tune of £4.83 million before the Covid pandemic forced the 2020 & 2021 events to be cancelled.

Since the first event in 1982 over £4.92million has been distributed to charities and voluntary organisations.

As the event celebrated its 40th anniversary this year – it is staged in one of only four royal towns in the country and the Queen celebrates her Platinum Jubilee – the decision was taken to revert back to the original title of the event Royal Sutton Fun Run.

This year’s event was staged on Sunday, 29 May with entrants raising £90,103. Eighty-five charities and voluntary organisations financially benefitted from the money raised  this year.

The 40th Royal Sutton Fun Run is scheduled for Sunday, 4 June 2023 start time 11am. Registration will open over the first weekend of February 2023 with a limit of 5500 places.
