Royal Sutton Coldfield Town Council has confirmed it is to support the Royal Sutton Fun Run in 2022.

Olive O’Sullivan, CEO Royal Sutton Coldfield Town Council said: “The Fun Run has been an integral part of life in Royal Sutton Coldfield for forty years. As a town council, we recognise how important the event is in not only bringing the community together but also providing a vehicle for local charities and voluntary organisations to encourage supporters to participate and raise money.

“We are only just emerging from two, very challenging years when many charities and voluntary organisations, particularly local and smaller organisations, have been unable to generate much if any income.

“The Town Council’s decision to support the Fun Run is recognition of how important the event is to the royal town and our desire to see it flourish once again following the pandemic.”

Online registration is now live via the new web site with those wishing to participate being encouraged not to delay in registering, with places limited as the vast majority of those who had entered ahead of the postponed 2020 event transferring their place.

Fun Run Event Director Tracey Spare said: “We very much welcome the support of Royal Sutton Coldfield Town Council and its recognition of the importance of the event to the royal town.

“Government restrictions during the pandemic left us with no choice but to postpone the Fun Run in 2020 and 2021, and the arrival of the Omicron variant, late last year, also poured huge uncertainty on staging this year’s event.

“However, the support of our partners and the fact that the vast majority of those who had originally registered for the 2020 Fun Run transferred their place to this year’s event, has been key to us being able to go ahead on 29th May.

“That said, some of our partners have ceased trading and we are facing significant increases in costs across the board, so any additional support we can secure will help us make the 40th anniversary Royal Sutton Fun Run a special occasion, particularly as the country celebrates the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee during the week of this year’s Fun Run.”
